But the real success of the meeting is bringing together hundreds of patients, caregivers, growers, and activists in a safe and empowering environment, where we can learn from and help each other. Networking helps the community help itself without the greedy fingers of "entrepreneurs" making a buck off of patient's medical needs - NO BUYING OR SELLING OF MARIJUANA IS TOLERATED, violators will be expelled and memberships permanently revoked. We find that together we are a powerful force and Oregon NORML works to channel that energy into the eventual re-legalization of cannabis hemp.
As always, to attend our meeting you need to be:
If you can possibly help others, bring plant starts, clones, and excess medicine to donate to the cause. In the meeting you'll get to meet other patients and caregivers, learn the latest in medical marijuana law and politics, and maybe even win a free door prize. We strive to help everyone, but the real success is that our members help each other.
Our cardholder meetings are a success because people in the cannabis community donate so much of their time and effort to provide cuttings for patients in need. To improve this program, we are instituting a couple of changes:
A new award at the Oregon Medical Cannabis Awards for the Oregon NORML member who has donated the most cuttings / plants for the year (beginning in June this year).
Members who bring cuttings / plants to donate get in to the meeting early. We're renewing this idea, but we need to be sure it doesn't get abused. Some people were bringing one pathetic mite-infested unrooted seedling in a Dixie cup full of water so they could get in early - that's not going to cut it (see below).
All cuttings / plants will be inspected to meet Oregon NORML's standards for rooting, size, and health. Obviously this means no mites, no mold, no fungus, solid root system, planted in soil, and other factors to be determined by the inspectors at the site. Our Master Grower onsite will be the final arbiter of plant / cutting worthiness!
