Oregon NORML's Ninth Million Marijuana March
Our March this year was a huge success! Police (conservatively) estimated 750 people in the streets calling for an end to adult marijuana prohibition! We were covered on three local TV news channels, with Oregon NORML Board Members delivering our talking points on OCTA 2010 - Madeline Martinez on FOX 12, "Radical" Russ Belville on KOIN 6, and Anna Diaz on KATU 2. We also got favorable coverage in the Oregonian and the Willamette Week.
Check out the full video of the March plus a special live performance from Chief Greenbud on our May 4, 2008 edition of A Cannabis Community Forum, which is available on our Oregon NORML YouTube Channel.
This is the Chinese symbol "Ma", and it is the oldest written human word to describe the cannabis sativa plant. It is also the name of our All-Cannabis Dragon (see pictures above). "Ma" will lead the Portland Million Marijuana March, snaking over forty feet from her all-cannabis plant stalk head through her hemp cloth neck, body, and tail.
We're also proud to announce the return of our Grand Marshals for this year's parade -- PonyBoy and the crew from Los Marijuanos!
After the March, we'll be gathering to "double our pleasure" at 8:40pm with the band and others at Mt. Tabor Legacy Theater at 4811 SE Hawthorne Blvd in Portland, OR. You must be 21 years of age or older to attend the Million Marijuana March After-Party.
Make Your Own Poster of Carry One of Ours
Check out PDF copies of some of the posters we'll have for you to carry in the March, or use these files to print out your own posters and fliers.
These files can be printed at your local copy shop on standard 36"x24" posterboard.
We understand that many people are nervous about "coming out of the cannabis closet" and openly showing the world that they are cannabis consumers or supporters. This is a difficult choice when you risk losing a job or alienating your family just for demanding your rights.
So if you wish to remain anonymous, you can join our Paper Bag Brigade. The brigade will consist of marchers wearing paper bags on their heads. The bags will have with eyeholes cut out and the faces of famous cannabis users, like Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush. Each member of the brigade also gets a sign featuring a marijuana quote from the person in the picture.
Bring your own signs calling for an end to marijuana prohibition, ending mandatory minimum sentences, repealing the HEA Act (denying student aid for cannabis violations), calling for promotion of industrial hemp, federal recognition of medical marijuana, or whatever pro-marijuana message you wish to carry. Or, you can just show up and carry one of our signs below:
